TRANSPARENCY IN COVERAGE

What You Need to Know

Effective July 1, 2022, the Transparency in Coverage Final Rules require non-grandfathered group health plans and health insurance issuers to post certain pricing information on two “machine-readable” files (MRFs). The MRFs have specific formatting and content requirements and must include information on:

  • In-network negotiated rates for covered items and services
  • Historical out-of-network allowed amounts and associated billed charges for covered items and services

The link below leads to the MRFs from Anthem that Hess is making available in response to the federal Transparency in Coverage Rule. The MRFs include negotiated service rates and out-of-network allowed amounts between health plans and health care providers. The MRFs are formatted to allow researchers, regulators and application developers to more easily access and analyze data.
